What can I do to reduce the number of flair-ups from HS?

Welcome back! I am sorry I missed last week's blog post. Last week was a super busy week! 😩
I hope you had a chance to read the January 28th blog post about "Could what I am eating be a factor in HS Outbreaks?" If you did, please leave a comment on whether or not you tried eliminating any of those foods mentioned from your diet and whether or not you saw a difference in your flare-ups. I would love to hear your feedback! ☺️
This week, I want to talk about what foods you CAN eat that may help with reducing the number of HS flair-ups. Let's dive in.
Upon research, I have found that eating more of the following foods may significantly help reduce the number of some of the severest HS flair-ups:
- Adding more Frozen or Fresh
- Fruits
- Vegetables
- Adding more Fresh or Dried herbs
- Adding any of the following:
- Lentils
- Beans
- Brown Rice
- Barley
- Oats
- Bran
- Couscous
- Quinoa
- Salmon
- Walnuts
- Flaxseed
- Flaxseed oil
- Avocados
- Olive Oil
I am pretty sure there are some foods that I have left out, so this list could increase in the future. What I am noticing though about this list is that the majority of these foods are alkaline. So, could that be a key factor as to why we have flair-ups in the first place? When I was in my early 20's, I was told by my doctor (way before I knew, and maybe even the doctor knew the name of this condition) that I should stay away from fatty, greasy, and acidic foods. Of course, I did not listen because I was a student in college that was eating whatever I could to stay full. LOL! Fast forward, I am now thinking that this could have been somewhat of a "cure" all along. The only way to put this to the test is to start changing our diets and tracking the results (or non-results)! The goal is to get to a more comfortable state where we can live a more pain-free lifestyle.
Next week, let's try challenging ourselves! We are in this together! If you are serious about getting relief, let's begin a weekly challenge where I can email you a list of foods that we will eliminate for the week and a list of foods that we can add to our diet for the week and then track our results. Just leave a comment with "add me to the list" and email Anu-Buttah at anu.lashbytea@gmail.com, so you can be added to the email series. Serious inquiries only!
